Botanical Ink Sample Markers
This set of Botanical Ink Sample Markers document inks made with plants gathered on the grounds of Mother-in-Law's Gallery in Germantown, NY that are used throughout the series of drawings created for the group exhibition, Par·ley, curated by Field Projects in 2023.
The label design features the plant's common name, scientific/botanical name, the plant family, and native range. The ink samples include the straight ink made from the plant, and ink with modifiers of vinegar, alum, soda ash, and iron. The formatting and font used is a nod to the plant labels at the New York Botanical Garden.
Installed near the plants they reference, these markers are an experiment into bringing more aspects of process into view and highlighting connections between plants, place, and people.
